The Water and Sewerage Company (WASCO) has commenced repairs on the raw water pipeline at Millet.
This move comes ahead of a planned temporary shutdown of the northern-wide water system, aimed at facilitating essential repairs on the mains.
WASCO’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Zilta George-Leslie, was present on site Thursday, overseeing the excavation process and assessing the extent of the repairs required.

“We are excavating the pipeline so that the leaks can be exposed after which we will commence the actual shutdown at 6 am Friday, March 1, to continue with the repairs and that will continue until March 2, after which the pipeline will be reopened on March 3,” explained George-Leslie to Loop News Thursday.
The planned shutdown, although necessary for repairs, will have significant implications for consumers from Millet to Cap Estate.
They are advised to brace for severe disruptions in water supply during this period.
In anticipation of the shutdown, WASCO has intensified its trucking efforts, with support from the Government, to ensure that customers, especially those in the north of the island and at elevated areas, have access to an adequate water supply throughout the shutdown period.
“So far, everything looks in order. We have excavated four different areas, and we have five different teams on the ground ensuring that all goes well for the excavation,” noted George-Leslie.
The water company has been grappling with issues in its pipeline, which transports raw water to the Theobalds treatment plant. Upon treatment, the plant distributes water to Saint Lucia’s north.
While the pipeline is scheduled to reopen on March 3 for most consumers, those residing at higher elevations, including Piat, Grande Riviere, Norbert, Cap Estate, Beausejour, Bella Rosa, and Monchy, may experience delays in water restoration as pressure builds up on the mainline.
WASCO’s CEO says the company remains committed to addressing water supply challenges and ensuring the efficient operation of its infrastructure to meet the needs of consumers across Saint Lucia.
The cooperation and understanding of residents during this period of maintenance are greatly appreciated as efforts are made to enhance the reliability of the island’s water distribution network.
